Who We Are

The Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project is exclusively organized for charitable and educational purposes, including the promotion of heritage stewardship and the preservation of archaeological features and the environment and cultural landscape of the Mesa Prieta region of the northern Rio Grande Valley. We have the largest petroglyph site in New Mexico with over 100,000 rock art images and archeological features that date back at least 10,000 years.

What We Do

Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project has a series of educational programming and outreach that includes hosting tours from schools and community members, recording archaeological features and a summer youth program. We are a small staff that depend heavily on volunteers and docents to educate about heritage stewardship and outreach to local communities.

We welcome additional volunteers who can commit to docent training from people who are vested in stewarding local histories.
