What organizations qualify?
Eligible Organizations
Organizations must be located in or serving primarily Los Alamos or Rio Arriba counties. In addition, the organization must be actively operating and meet one or more of the following:
- A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization
- A government entity serving the community
- An organization not eligible for 501(c) status but providing a health-related service such as hospitals, home health care, prevention and wellness and nursing facilities.
- Churches and congregations providing a community service available to the general population may be eligible, but the site will not be used to promote religion.
- Exceptions to eligibility may be made at the sole discretion of LACF, including for school-based, education-based or recreation/sports-based organizations.
Ineligible Organizations
- Political organizations or organizations involving partisan political activities.
- Organizations seeking volunteers or visibility for personal purposes or profit.
- Organizations requiring financial membership to participate in volunteer activities.
LACF reserves the right to refuse any organization whose volunteer program, mission or purpose it finds contrary to the spirit of community volunteerism.
What's the first step?
First, you will need a personal profile. Click on the yellow "SIGN UP" button, and check out the volunteer FAQ here.
I now have a personal profile, how do I set up an organization?
First, review the PEEC page as a good example of what an organization page will look like when done. This will show what your page will look like to visitors.
Gather the required information below to establish an organization profile. The information can be edited later if you aren’t sure about any information provided, so don’t let this prevent you from getting started.
- Organization Name
- Address
- EIN
- Organization contact name and title
- Additional notifications (email for others in your organization who will receive notifications from the system – this is optional)
- Organization email address
- Decide which of the following causes apply to your organization (you'll select as many as apply when registering): Arts & Culture, Basic Needs, Community Building, Crime & Safety, Crisis, Education, Employment, Environment, Equality, Family, Health, Housing, Income, Mental Wellness, Seniors, Veterans.
- Hours of Operation
- ‘Who we are’ (brief description of organization)
- ‘What we do’ (brief description of your programs)
Go back to volunteerlosalamos.org and hit ‘Click here to register your organization’ near the center of the page, under the ‘Volunteer Now’ button. Complete the information and hit ‘Request Account.’
The request is sent to LACF within 24 hours and will be approved as soon as possible. Once approved, you will be able to log in as an Organization Manager to work on your page and post volunteer opportunities. While waiting for approval, gather the following images for your page:
- Organization Logo (540 x 540 pixels minimum)
- Up to 5 photos that represent your organization’s work.
Once you have received a notice that your organization is approved, log in and finish your page, including uploading your logo and images. You will maintain your page from the “My Organization” tab at the top of the page once logged in. Note the orange banner titled Organization Manager’s Toolbox at the center of the page. This contains the instructions, videos and tools you’ll use to manage your site.
We have not yet created a training video for Los Alamos, but it will be useful to review a 16-minute video that Albuquerque has prepared for its volunteer portal. Albuquerque uses the same ‘Get Connected’ product as we do.
How do I get additional training to use Volunteer Los Alamos to attract and notify volunteers?
We urge all new organization managers to sign up for the Get Connected Central Agency Training webinar, watch the Full Agency Training recorded video, and read the I am an Agency or Program Manager help section articles.
