Our Mind&Melody music program at the Sombrillo Nursing in Los Alamos meets weekly on Tuesdays from 1-2 pm. We bring a fun and engaging music program to seniors living with cognitive impairments. As well as collecting participants' moods before and after the sessions (we show you how to collect the mood).

For the paid position of Session Leader, it is $35-40, 1hr session. The session leader performs tunes for residents, leads simple music activities, and interacts with the participants. Volunteers help provide support during the sessions, either musically or non musically. We provide training to lead the sessions. During the sessions, participants play simple instruments, sing-a-longs, and communicate through music!

Volunteer: Community Bigs (Mentors) in Espanola

Youth in our community have an abundance of potential - they just need someone in their corner to help them realize it. There are hundreds of kids in Central New Mexico who are waiting for a mentor who will stand with them and help them ignite their potential.

Big Brothers Big Sisters exists to create positive change in our community by matching youth with adult mentors to build powerful friendships. Volunteers tell us that being a mentor is one of the best experiences that they have ever had. It’s also not as time consuming as they thought it would be.

Here are some things to think about:

We ask that mentors see their mentees for at least four hours a month and commit to volunteering for at least a year. You would do the same things with your mentee that you would do with your friends: Go to the movies. Play games. Go out to eat. Just hang out! It’s that easy. You are not alone in this. Your Big Brothers Big Sisters’ case manager and a network of volunteers will be there with resources, opportunities and support.

Interview, training, & background check will be required.
